Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a complex hormonal disorder in which many small sacs of fluid develop along the outer edge of the ovary (known as cysts), leading to an imbalance in reproductive hormones.
In this, the ovaries produce an abnormal amount of androgens (male sex hormones) that are usually present in women in small amounts. This leads to acne, unwanted hair, and thinning of hair. Simultaneously, a decrease in the production of progesterone contributes to irregular periods.
Irregular Menstrual Cycles: Infrequent, irregular, or prolonged menstrual periods.
Increased hair growth and acne on the face, chest, back, or other areas (hirsutism)
Resistance to insulin.
Unexplained weight gain or difficulty losing weight.
Hair thinning or hair loss on the scalp.
Pelvic pain and difficulty conceiving. Enlarged or polycystic ovary detected in ultrasounds.

A balanced diet rich in whole grains, lean proteins, fruits, and vegetables can help manage weight and improve insulin resistance. Coupled with regular physical activity, it can help improve cholesterol levels, and reduce the risk of heart disease and diabetes.
Birth control pills can help regulate the menstrual cycle and restore a normal hormone balance. Medication can also be taken to reduce excessive hair growth and acne by blocking the effects of androgens.
Counseling and Therapy can help manage the emotional and mental health impacts of PCOS, including anxiety and depression.
Regular visits to a healthcare provider are crucial for monitoring symptoms, adjusting treatments, and preventing complications.
