Understanding
the body

Endometriosis is a disorder where tissues called “endometrium” found inside the uterus, grow outside the uterine cavity. Each month, these tissues build up and shed during menstruation, causing heavy bleeding and excruciating pain.

These symptoms vary from woman to woman since they are heavily influenced by hormonal changes and lifestyle choices. The severity of the symptoms cannot indicate the severity of endometriosis.

SYMPTOMS

Pain in lower abdomen before and during periods (usually worse than “normal” menstrual cramps).

Pain during or after sexual activity.

Painful urination and/or bowel movements during periods.

Fatigue.

Other gastrointestinal upsets such as diarrhea, constipation, and nausea.

Infertility.

How to deal with Endometriosis

We suggest taking a multi pronged approach when trying to manage your symptoms.

PAIN RELIEF

Medications such as nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)help reduce inflammation and alleviate mild to moderate pain.Topical pain relief options such as creams, gels, and patches provide localized pain relief without the systemic side effects associated with oral medications.

DIETARY CHANGES

An anti-inflammatory diet rich in fresh fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins, along with regular physical activity, stress management, and adequate sleep, can reduce inflammation and improve overall well-being. Avoiding trigger foods such as gluten, dairy, and caffeine may also provide symptom relief.

HORMONAL THERAPY

Hormonal therapy aims to reduce or eliminate menstruation, thus slowing the growth of endometrial tissue and alleviating pain. Common hormonal treatments include oral contraceptives, progestins, GnRH agonists, and antagonists.

SURGERY

Surgery is often considered when other treatments are ineffective or when endometriosis causes severe symptoms. Laparoscopic surgery is the preferred method, allowing for precise removal of endometriosis lesions while reproductive organs.preserving
